Rules for Caddo Lodge service flaps

Notify Ranger two weeks in advance that you or your group will be working at Garland Scout Ranch – file a Garland Use Permit.  A mixed group of Order members and nonmembers is allowed.  Only current dues paid members of the Caddo Lodge in the Order of the Arrow are permitted to participate in the Service Flap program.  All others working at the Ranch may earn Garland Ranch Hand hours.

Follow the Garland Rules for Camp activities.

Obtain a Service Flap record card.  Cards are available from the Garland Ranch Ranger.  The dates and times will be recorded on the card and the Ranger will sign the card validating the hours worked at the ranch.  The Service Hour Flap Record is the responsibility of the individual to keep up with.  The Ranger is not expected to keep a record of your hours.

Service projects will either be supplied by or approved by the Garland Ranger.  If you decide to proceed with a project not approved by the Ranger the hours worked on that project will not be available for hours accrued toward the service flaps.

The Caddo Lodge Service Flap is offered to promote Lodge member service work to the Scout Ranch and is similar to the Garland Ranch Hand.   Garland Scout Ranch Hand hours will not be applied to the Service Flap program.  The Ranch Hand is a separate program for all Scouts and Scouters in the Council.  Information concerning the Ranch Hand is available from the Ranger.

Hours worked at Summer Camp, Winter Camp, Camporee, or other District or Council Events will not be applied to the Service Flap total.  Fellowship hours are also disqualified.  Hours worked toward preparing the camp for events is allowed if approved by the Garland Ranger.

The record card will be turned over to the Lodge at the Fall Fellowship each year.  Service flaps will then be presented at the Lodge Winter Banquet.  Service hours accrued between the Fall Fellowship and the end of the current calendar year will go toward the following years service flaps.

Hours worked will reward the individual with his choice of Service Flaps, based on the number of overall hours worked.  The basis of the Flap program is tiered.
